To be in compliance with the Maryland law, a property owner must:
Register your rental unit(s) every year with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). There is a $15 fee per unit. Call MDE at 410-537-4199 for more information;
Deliver these 3 items to each tenant at lease signing, and every 2 years thereafter. Property owners must have written proof that the tenant received these documents:
A copy of MDE's "Notice of Tenant's Rights"
A copy of EPA's "Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home" pamphlet
A copy of the current inspection certificate for the property
Perform "Full Risk Reduction Measures" in each property prior to occupancy by a new tenant, or perform "Modified Risk Reduction Measures" in response to a Notice of Defect from an existing tenant.
